About Gatherland

Friends setting a table in a warmly lit party room, with an evening Kowloon street view through the window

Gatherland is an hourly venue booking platform for Hong Kong. You see which party rooms, mahjong rooms, studios and meeting rooms are free for your slot and what your group will actually pay, then pay online and book. No messaging venue after venue and waiting for replies. The platform holds your payment and releases it to the host only after the booking ends.

What goes wrong when you book a venue in Hong Kong?

Booking a room by the hour usually looks like this:

  • Messaging venue after venue. The same question sent on Instagram or WhatsApp: is Saturday free, how much for twelve people?
  • No clear total. Hourly rate, weekend rate, minimums, headcount and add-ons are quoted separately, and it takes several messages to get a final number.
  • No live availability. By the time someone replies, the slot may have gone.
  • Informal deposits. How deposits are taken and returned varies from venue to venue, the terms are often unwritten, and there is little you can do if something goes wrong.

The information people need already exists: whether the room is free, and the total for your date, time and group. Gatherland puts both on the search page and handles payment, deposits and cancellations through the platform.

No idea who runs the venue New hosts are verified before their listings go live
Reviews you cannot check Only guests with a completed booking can review

The price and the slot are settled before you arrive, so the day is about the people.

How does booking work?

  1. 1

Enter district, date, time, duration and group size

Slots move in 30-minute steps, and calendars open 90 days ahead.

  2. 2

    Compare totals and availability

Results show the total for that slot and group, and whether the venue is free. Friday to Sunday, public holidays and the day before a public holiday are charged at the weekend rate.

  3. 3

    Check the terms and pay

The cancellation policy, any security deposit and the booking mode are shown before payment. You pay the full amount online when you book.

  4. 4

    Get confirmed

Instant book venues confirm as soon as payment succeeds. For host-confirms venues the host has 24 hours to accept, and nothing is charged if they decline.

  5. 5

    Receive your entry details

The exact floor and unit appear once the booking is confirmed. Self check-in venues send entry instructions, such as a door code, by email and WhatsApp before the start.

  6. 6

    After the booking

Any deposit normally comes back about 48 hours after the end. You can then leave a review and earn points.

The full walkthrough is in how booking works.

How do we verify hosts?

Before a new host's listings go live, we verify three things:

  • Business registration, to confirm the venue is run as a business.
  • Identity, to confirm who holds the account.
  • Payout account, to confirm where booking income is paid.

Listings do not appear in search until verification is complete.

How are guests protected?

  • The platform holds your money. Your payment is not passed to the host straight away; it is released 48 hours after the booking ends.
  • Deposits come back. Some venues take a refundable security deposit, shown before you pay. It is returned about 48 hours after the booking ends unless the host reports damage, overtime or extra cleaning, with evidence. If you cancel, the deposit is always returned in full.
  • Clear cancellation tiers. Every venue uses one of these policies:
Policy Full refund 50% refund No refund
Flexible 24 hours or more before the start 6 to 24 hours before under 6 hours
Standard 48 hours or more before 24 to 48 hours before under 24 hours
Strict 7 days or more before 72 hours to 7 days before under 72 hours
  • If the host cancels, you are refunded in full and the host is charged a cancellation fee.
  • Severe weather. If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, or a Black Rainstorm Warning, is in force at any time from three hours before the start until the start, you can cancel for a full refund or move to another free slot at the same venue within 30 days.
  • Disputes. If a venue is seriously not as described, tell us within 24 hours of the start. The platform decides on what both sides provide and may refund in part or in full.

For hosts

  • Free to list. We take a commission on completed bookings only. The rate is on pricing.
  • Less back-and-forth. Guests see your real availability and price before they book, so you answer fewer repeat questions.
  • Tools to run your venue. A calendar with manual blocks and iCal import and export, booking management, messaging, and payouts with statements.
  • Flexible pricing. Per person or per room, with optional minimum hours, minimum headcount, a child rate, group discounts, add-ons and platform-only offers.
  • Payment handled. Guests pay in full online when they book, and your payout is released 48 hours after the booking ends.
