Getting there

Tsuen Wan has three main MTR stations. Tsuen Wan is the end of the Tsuen Wan line, one ride from Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po and Lai Chi Kok. Tsuen Wan West is on the Tuen Ma line, so guests from Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin and Kowloon City can come without changing. Tai Wo Hau sits between Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung and also has industrial buildings nearby. From Lantau, take the Tung Chung line to Lai King and change to the Tsuen Wan line.

Tsuen Wan is a transport hub for the south-west New Territories, with plenty of buses and minibuses, so getting home after a late party is rarely a problem. If you drive, some industrial buildings have car parks, but spaces and charges depend on the building, and weekends can be busy.

What venues are like here

Most party rooms, mahjong rooms and multi-purpose spaces in Tsuen Wan are in industrial buildings, clustered between Tsuen Wan, Tsuen Wan West and Tai Wo Hau stations. Units have high ceilings and generous floor space, so hosts can fit karaoke, game consoles, pool tables or BBQ equipment, and rooms that take more than a dozen people are common.

The town centre also has some venues in commercial buildings. They are closer to the station but usually smaller, which suits small gatherings and meetings. Industrial-building venues are used in the evenings and at weekends too; follow the building's rules and the host's instructions for entry.

What it's good for

  • Big birthday parties: industrial-building rooms fit a dozen or more, with karaoke and games in one place.
  • Family gatherings: families in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing and Tuen Mun do not need to travel into the city, and the rooms have space for children.
  • Company events: team building, annual dinners and farewells work well in a large room with a projector.
  • Indoor BBQ: if you would rather not head to the countryside, look at party rooms with BBQ.

Practical tips

  • Industrial-building lifts can be slow at rush hour and at weekends. Arrive a few minutes early.
  • For food delivery, give the building name, floor and unit, or meet the rider in the lobby.
  • Neighbouring units may still be working. Keep the volume reasonable.
  • If most of your group lives in Kwai Tsing or west Kowloon, also check Kwai Chung and Kwai Fong.
  • For typical price levels, see the price index.
