Getting there
Tsing Yi station is on the Tung Chung line and the Airport Express, one stop from Lai King, and reachable directly from Hong Kong and Kowloon stations on the Airport Express. A mall and bus terminus sit above the station; to reach the estates and the industrial areas you will need a bus, minibus or taxi.
The Rambler Channel separates the east side of Tsing Yi from Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung, and several bridges link them, so driving over is quick. The west and south of the island have oil depots, shipyards and logistics sites, so there is heavy traffic but the roads are wide.
What venues are like here
Tsing Yi has fewer industrial buildings than Tsuen Wan or Kwai Chung, and venues fall into two groups. Some are in industrial buildings, mainly along Tsing Yi Road, with more space for bigger groups. Others are in commercial buildings near the housing estates: smaller, but within walking distance for residents.
Most of the island is residential and quiet at night. For industrial-building venues, follow the building's rules and the entry details the host sends.
What it's good for
- Family and neighbourhood gatherings: Tsing Yi families do not need to leave the island, which helps with young children.
- Birthdays: a smaller party can use a venue near the estates; a larger one suits an industrial-building room.
- Small meetings: Kwai Tsing teams can meet at a venue near the estates or the station without going into the city.
- A walk plus a party: the Tsing Yi waterfront has a cycle track and open space for a stroll before or after.
Practical tips
- For venues in the industrial area, check on a map which bus or minibus to take before you leave.
- Book popular weekend and holiday slots early.
- If nothing suits, widen your search to Kwai Fong, Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan.
- With children, check the venue page for a child rate or kids' facilities.
