Getting there

Cheung Sha Wan station is on the Tsuen Wan line, and the industrial area around Cheung Sha Wan Road lies just south of it. Venues on the western side are walkable from Lai Chi Kok station, and those to the east from Sham Shui Po station.

Many buses and minibuses run along Cheung Sha Wan Road and Castle Peak Road. Some industrial buildings have car parks, but weekday loading traffic is heavy, so allow time if you drive.

What venues are like here

Cheung Sha Wan has long been a garment and wholesale area with many industrial buildings, and a good number have been converted into offices, studios and showrooms. Venues are mostly industrial units with generous space: party rooms, photo studios, band rooms, dance studios and workshop spaces.

Access varies a lot between old and converted buildings. Newer lobbies usually have security and sign-in; in older buildings, check gate hours and the rules for goods lifts.

What it's good for

  • Birthdays and gatherings: industrial units fit a big group.
  • Band practice and rehearsals: a good choice of band rooms and rehearsal spaces.
  • Shoots and workshops: open studios and spaces suited to craft classes and talks.

Compare with neighbouring Lai Chi Kok and Sham Shui Po.

Practical tips

  • Avoid loading hours: weekday daytimes bring lots of lorries; walk carefully.
  • Food nearby: there are supermarkets and restaurants near the station, and Sham Shui Po's street food is not far.
  • Give delivery riders full details: buildings look alike, so write the building name, floor and unit.
  • Keep the volume in check: even with soundproofing, be considerate of neighbouring units at night.
  • Consider weekdays: Friday to Sunday, public holidays and the day before a public holiday are charged at the weekend rate.
