Getting there
Kwai Chung is on the Tsuen Wan line, a short ride from Mong Kok, Prince Edward and Sham Shui Po. The industrial buildings are mainly around Kwai Hing and Tai Wo Hau stations, on both sides of Kwai Chung Road, with a few commercial and industrial blocks near Kwai Fong. From Lantau or the airport side, take the Tung Chung line to Lai King and change to the Tsuen Wan line.
The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals lie between Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi, so expect lorries and allow extra time if you drive. The upside is wide roads and loading bays, which make it easier than in the city to bring in food, equipment or decorations.
What venues are like here
Almost all venues in Kwai Chung are in industrial buildings. High ceilings and large units mean the area has rehearsal rooms, dance studios, photo studios and multi-purpose spaces as well as party rooms. Larger rooms can take a big group, with space for long tables, a projector or an activity area.
Fit-outs vary a lot, from plain industrial to fully themed rooms. Venues operate in the evenings and at weekends, but each building has its own arrangements for gates and lifts, so follow the host's entry instructions.
What it's good for
- Large birthdays and gatherings: room for a crowd, with options for karaoke, consoles or BBQ.
- Team building and company events: plenty of space and easy access for equipment.
- Dance practice, band sessions and rehearsals: see dance studios and music studios.
- Shoots and livestreams: high-ceilinged units leave room for lighting.
Practical tips
- Lifts get crowded at the end of the working day. Arrive a few minutes early.
- For food delivery, give the building name, block, floor and unit. Many industrial buildings have similar names.
- Some buildings run only one lift or a side entrance at night. Read the entry details the host sends.
- Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong are only a few stops away, so compare all three.
