Getting there
Wan Chai station on the Island Line is the main stop for central Wan Chai. Exhibition Centre station on the East Rail Line sits near the convention centre on the waterfront, so guests from the New Territories East or Kowloon Tong do not need to change to the Island Line. Admiralty to the west and Causeway Bay to the east are each one stop away.
Trams run along Hennessy Road and Johnston Road through Wan Chai. The Star Ferry runs between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, a pleasant option from Kowloon. Bus routes are plentiful.
Streets are narrow and busy and street parking is scarce, so public transport is usually the easier choice.
What venues are like here
Most venues are upper-floor units in commercial and mixed-use buildings, with some in older walk-up tenements. Commercial units usually have lifts and newer fit-outs. They are smaller than industrial-building spaces but close to offices and restaurants. Tenement units may have no lift, so plan ahead if you are carrying anything heavy.
You will find party rooms, meeting rooms and small event spaces, and many have a projector or large TV for presentations or photo slideshows.
What it's good for
- Company events: colleagues can walk over after work for farewells, welcome drinks or quarterly get-togethers. See Wan Chai party rooms and Wan Chai meeting rooms.
- Meetings and workshops: close to offices, so a half-day session does not mean a long trip.
- Birthdays for Island friends: central for people coming from both ends of the Island.
Practical tips
- Lifts and pavements are busy at rush hour, so allow an extra 15 minutes for after-work events.
- There is plenty of food nearby for delivery or takeaway. Give the floor and unit with every order.
- Mixed-use buildings have residents, so keep the noise down late at night.
- If you are presenting, ask the host how the projector connects and whether there is a microphone and long tables.
