Three-clue object guessing cards
Give one player a secret object card. They offer three clues in order: what it does, where it is used and one physical feature. The group makes one shared guess after each clue. Read all three clues even if the first guess is correct, then compare which clue was most helpful. These original cards need no purchased game or specialist knowledge.
- Time
- Suggested: 15 minutes
- Participants
- 3–8 people
- Materials
- Paper slips and pens
How to use it
- Copy the task column onto separate slips; keep the facilitator notes out of players’ sight.
- Allow the describer a short preparation pause. Names, spellings and direct translations of the answer are excluded.
- Take one group guess per clue, then reveal the object and rotate the describer. Use six rounds without keeping a speed ranking.

Build clues that narrow the answer
“It is useful” fits almost every object. A clue such as “it keeps loose pages together” narrows the purpose without naming a stapler. If several answers still fit, accept a reasonable alternative and discuss the ambiguity rather than treating the card as a vocabulary test.
Keep hidden answers genuinely hidden
The download includes the intended answer in the facilitator note. Remove that column before sharing a screen or handing out player slips. Players may write their guesses instead of speaking; the guessing rule stays the same. For another language, agree the language before starting so nobody wins through translation.
Continue planning
- A quiet category challenge
Write answers to a shared category, then discuss overlaps and different interpretations.
- A cooperative drawing challenge
Use simple descriptions and shared drawing to build one picture, with original prompt cards.
