Podcast episode recording plan
Organise the recording around segments rather than one uninterrupted conversation. Give each segment a purpose, a speaker and a cue for the next part. Note where an introduction, correction or closing line may need a separate pickup. The plan does not specify a universal microphone setup: test the actual room, devices and recording path you intend to use before the discussion begins.
How to use it
- Write the episode question and the purpose of each segment.
- Assign the speaker cue, recording owner and pickup notes.
- Check the saved test recording, then record file names and handover notes.

Test what is actually saved
Hearing sound through headphones is not evidence that the intended file was saved correctly. Make a short test, stop it and listen to the saved file. Check who is responsible for starting, stopping and confirming the recording. If the room changes, repeat that practical check with the actual arrangement.
Make pickups easy to find
When a line needs another take, note its segment and the intended replacement rather than relying on memory. Agree file naming and the handover location with the editor. Decide with guests what will be recorded and how the material will be used before the session, including any planned extracts.
