Getting there
Yau Tong station is an interchange between the Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O lines, convenient from Kowloon East, Tseung Kwan O and the eastern side of Hong Kong Island (change at North Point to the Tseung Kwan O line). There is a mall and housing above the station.
The industrial area lies south of the station near the waterfront, mainly around Ko Fai Road and Sze Shan Street, about a 10 to 15-minute walk over hilly ground. Buses and minibuses serve the area, and some industrial buildings have car parks.
What venues are like here
The Yau Tong industrial area was once mainly factories and warehouses. Parts of it have since been rezoned for housing and commercial use, so new residential towers now stand beside older industrial buildings. Venues are mostly in industrial buildings with large units: party rooms, photo studios and dance studios, and some party rooms have BBQ or hot pot equipment.
The industrial streets are quiet at night, and some buildings close their gates at night or on holidays, so ask the host about access before booking.
What it's good for
- Big birthdays and gatherings: industrial units hold large groups comfortably.
- Company events and team building: close to both Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O.
- Shoots: high ceilings inside, and the waterfront and old industrial buildings outside.
Compare with nearby Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay.
Practical tips
- Allow for the hill: downhill on the way there, uphill on the way back.
- Stock up first: there are few restaurants in the industrial area, so buy drinks and snacks at the station mall.
- Give delivery riders full details: write the building, floor and unit, or meet them downstairs.
- Walk it off: on a fine day, the Lei Yue Mun waterfront is nearby.
- Walk back together: the industrial area is quiet at night; head back to the station as a group and check last train times.
