Getting there
Sai Wan Ho station on the Island Line is the main stop, a direct ride from Causeway Bay or North Point, with Shau Kei Wan one stop further east. Trams run along Shau Kei Wan Road, and there are plenty of buses and minibuses. From Tseung Kwan O or East Kowloon, change from the Tseung Kwan O Line to the Island Line at North Point or Quarry Bay.
The Island Eastern Corridor is close by, so driving in from elsewhere on the Island is fairly direct, but street parking in the area is limited.
What venues are like here
Sai Wan Ho is mainly residential. Venues are mostly upper-floor units in mixed-use or older buildings, small to mid-sized. It is quieter than the commercial districts further west, which suits groups who want to sit and chat or play board games.
There are many residents nearby, so keep the volume down at night. Lifts in some older buildings are small, so allow time if you are bringing a pram or lots of supplies.
What it's good for
- Get-togethers and birthdays: easy for friends in the east of the Island, in a relaxed setting.
- Children's birthdays: lots of families live here, so parents can bring kids over easily.
- Classes and hobby groups: the community feel suits regular classes.
The area has plenty of eateries and markets, so it is easy to have dinner first or order food up to the venue.
Nearby, browse Tai Koo and Shau Kei Wan as well.
