Getting there

The South Island Line has two stations on Ap Lei Chau, Lei Tung and South Horizons, which is the line's terminus. From Kowloon or the north shore of the Island, change to the South Island Line at Admiralty and ride straight in.

The Ap Lei Chau Bridge links the island with Aberdeen, and there are many bus and minibus routes, some through the Aberdeen Tunnel to the north shore. Driving in is fairly direct, and some industrial buildings and malls have car parks, but check with the host first.

What venues are like here

Venues here fall into two broad types. Some are in industrial buildings, with generous space and high ceilings, often party rooms, photo studios and event spaces that suit larger groups or setups that need decorating. Others are in commercial or mixed-use buildings near the housing estates, smaller and suited to family and friends.

Industrial buildings may only open a designated entrance at night and on holidays, lifts can be slow at busy times, and few eateries open nearby at night and at weekends. Venues near the estates have residents around them, so keep the volume down at night.

What it's good for

  • Birthdays and get-togethers: industrial-building venues have room for a dozen or more. See Ap Lei Chau party rooms.
  • Children's birthdays: plenty of families in the estates nearby.
  • Photo shoots: large industrial spaces suit product and lifestyle shots.
  • Team-building: enough room for breakout activities.

  • If you are bringing equipment or lots of supplies, ask whether you can use the goods lift.
  • Remind friends coming from Kowloon to change to the South Island Line at Admiralty.
