Getting there
Whampoa station is the Kwun Tong line terminus, one ride from anywhere in Kowloon East. Hung Hom station to the west, on the East Rail and Tuen Ma lines, is about 10 to 15 minutes' walk.
Whampoa has a bus terminus and minibuses to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Estates and malls have car parks, so driving is easier than in older districts, though the mall area is busy at weekends.
What venues are like here
Whampoa is a large private housing estate with connected malls and no industrial buildings, so there are fewer venues. Most are inside malls or on commercial floors: classrooms, children's activity spaces, studios and small party rooms. Spaces are small to mid-sized and usually bright and tidy.
Venues in malls may follow mall opening hours, so ask the host about night and holiday access. With many residents nearby, keep the noise down in the evening.
What it's good for
- Kids' parties: a family area with parks and the waterfront nearby.
- Classes and workshops: mall classrooms are easy to reach for regular sessions.
- Small get-togethers: meet up, then eat in the malls afterwards.
For more space, look at Hung Hom and To Kwa Wan.
Practical tips
- Check mall hours: for venues inside a mall, arrival and departure may depend on mall opening hours.
- Food is easy: restaurants and supermarkets are concentrated around the Whampoa malls.
- Somewhere to run around: the waterfront promenade is good for letting children burn off energy.
- Busy weekends: the malls are crowded at weekends and on holidays, so allow extra time.
- Plan ahead: the party checklist helps you prepare for a kids' party.
