Booking a venue in Ma On Shan

Getting there

The Tuen Ma line runs through Ma On Shan with four stations, south to north: Tai Shui Hang, Heng On, Ma On Shan and Wu Kai Sha, the eastern end of the line. There are direct trains from Tai Wai, east Kowloon and the north-west New Territories; from Kowloon Tong or Mong Kok East, change from the East Rail line at Tai Wai.

Buses and minibuses run frequently to Sha Tin town centre and around the university. Roads are wide and car parks are plentiful, so driving is usually easier than in the city, though the waterfront gets busy at weekends.

What venues are like here

Ma On Shan is a residential new town with very few industrial buildings. Venues are mostly in malls or commercial buildings near the stations, mid-sized and suited to family gatherings of around ten, kids' parties or classes.

Because they are close to homes, venues tend to be tidy, but keep the noise down at night out of respect for neighbours. For a big group or for photo and rehearsal studios, head to neighbouring Shek Mun, a few stops away on the Tuen Ma line.

What it's good for

  • Kids' parties: lots of families, and venues near the estates are the easiest with small children. See kids' party rooms.
  • Family birthdays: everyone can walk over or ride a stop or two.
  • Neighbourhood gatherings: no need to go into Sha Tin town centre.
  • A waterfront walk and a party: the Ma On Shan promenade runs along Tolo Harbour, good for a bike ride with the kids beforehand.

Practical tips

  • The four stations are spread out. Tell friends which one to get off at.
  • At venues near housing estates, keep an eye on the end time and the volume.
  • For big rooms or company events, widen your search to Shek Mun and Sha Tin.
  • With children, check the venue page for a child rate, kids' facilities or a minimum headcount.
