Getting there

Sheung Shui station is on the East Rail line after Fanling; north of it the line continues to the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau boundary crossings. It is direct from Kowloon Tong, Mong Kok East and Admiralty. The station has a bus terminus and minibus stand serving Shek Wu Hui, the surrounding villages and the Ta Kwu Ling area.

If you drive, the town centre is congested and parking is tight. The countryside around it is more open, but village roads are narrow and poorly lit at night, so drive carefully.

What venues are like here

Venues in Sheung Shui fall into two groups:

  • Town-centre mixed-use buildings: around Sheung Shui station and Shek Wu Hui, mid-sized, good for small gatherings, classes or meetings.
  • Village houses and outdoor spaces: there are many traditional villages and farmland around Sheung Shui, and some venues have gardens or BBQ areas for groups who want more room.

There are few industrial buildings in Sheung Shui itself; for a large industrial-building venue, most people look at On Lok Tsuen in neighbouring Fanling. Village-house venues are quiet at night, so keep the volume down.

What it's good for

  • Small meetings and classes: venues near the station are easy for North district residents and teams, with no trip into Kowloon.

Practical tips

  • The station area is crowded. Tell friends which exit to use and where to wait.
  • For countryside venues, check the route and the last bus or minibus before you go.
  • Village-house venues may have no lift. If you are bringing older relatives or a pram, ask the host first.
  • For more choice, widen your search to Fanling and Tai Po.
