Getting there

Tin Shui Wai station is on the Tuen Ma line between Long Ping and Siu Hong, direct from Tsuen Wan West, Mei Foo and Nam Cheong. Inside the town, the Light Rail is the main way around: its routes loop through Tin Shui Wai with stops below many estates and malls, and connect to Yuen Long town and Tuen Mun.

Roads are wide and there are plenty of mall and estate car parks, so driving is usually manageable. Buses also run to Kowloon, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long.

What venues are like here

Tin Shui Wai is a planned new town of housing estates, malls and public facilities, with very few industrial buildings. Venues are mostly in malls or commercial buildings near the estates, mid-sized and suited to kids' parties, birthdays, classes or small gatherings of around ten.

Being close to homes, venues tend to be tidy, but watch the noise and the end time at night. For a bigger room, an industrial building or an outdoor BBQ, widen your search to Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, both reachable by Light Rail or the Tuen Ma line.

What it's good for

• Kids' parties: many families, and venues near the estates are the easiest with small children. See kids' party rooms.
• Family birthdays: everyone can get there in a stop or two on the Light Rail.
• Classes and small workshops: venues near the estates are easy for local residents to reach.
• Wetland Park plus a party: spend the day at the Wetland Park and meet up in the evening.

• There are many Light Rail stops. Tell friends exactly where to get off.
• At venues near housing estates, keep an eye on the end time and the volume.
• With children, check the venue page for a child rate, kids' facilities or a minimum headcount.
• For big rooms or BBQ, look at Yuen Long and Tuen Mun.
